In preparation for the 150th Anniversary of Chicamacomico’s 1874 Station, (the 1st Life-Saving Station on the NC coast and, therefore, the 150th Anniversary of the US Life-Saving Service in North Carolina), we are seeking Sponsor/Partners

Operated by the Chicamacomico Historical Association (a 501(c)3 not for profit) the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station and Museum on Hatteras Island in Rodanthe NC is the most complete restoration of such stations in the United States.  Consisting of 2 stations (the 1874 Station which was replaced in 1911 and became a Coast Guard Station in 1915) and related buildings, (boathouse, stable, cookhouse), situated on 7 acres.  The station, like so many others, was decommissioned in the middle 50’s as technology (helicopters, faster boats and later GPS) reduced the length of time required to render assistance on scene.  Nationwide, the Life-Saving Service (LSS) rescued over 177,000 people and makes our mission (to preserve these buildings and the stories of the men who served here, in Dare County, and on the entire coast of North Carolina) ever more compelling.  The history and heritage of these barrier islands (the Graveyard of the Atlantic) is intimately aligned with the Life-Saving Service.

The 1874 Station needs extensive work in preparation for its Sesquicentennial and we will be seeking Foundation partners to raise the necessary funds ($100,000+) to accomplish that critical task.  Sponsorship by local businesses, like funding from local organizations like the Community Foundation and the Visitors Bureau, show larger foundations a level of local support that encourages them to see their contribution as a partnership rather than the sole support of any project.

We encourage you to visit our website, www.chicamacomco.org, and notice at the bottom of every page (the footer) you will see logos of the above organizations along with that of our platinum sponsor.  You’ll find a list of sponsors on the next tab down.

You are welcome to choose your level of support from $5,000 to $500 with a commensurate level of gratitude/recognition.

If you think your organization might be a partner, please use the contact us link below to establish a dialogue with one of our volunteer leadership team.  Identifying a contact person and phone number will expedite the process.  You may have already been contacted by one of our Board of Directors, in which case the dialogue is already underway.
