November 2021
Chicamacomico was honored to host two groups of US Coast Guards’ finest who recently were or soon will be promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E7). Those undergoing the indoctrination were from First Flight Chief’s Mess (Elizabeth City, NC) and Chesapeake Chief’s Mess (VA) and they were here to practice leadership, teamwork, and to connect with their historical forebears.
All morning long, under the direction of Chicamacomico’s crack drill team, the Chiefs learned the Beach Apparatus Drill and at 1PM and 2 PM each team took to the field, fired the Lyle gun, rigged the breeches buoy gear, and rescued the offspring of one of their members. As expected a friendly competition developed, and both teams were winners (we’ll just leave it at that).
Lunch in the Tri Village Community Building was generously provided by the Hatteras Island Christian Fellowship and greatly appreciated by all in attendance.
Chicamacomico looks forward to continued collaboration with the men and women serving their country in the Coast Guard.
