We increased our attendance to 15,000 from March-November.
We brought ShredFest to a new home on Hatteras Island.
We recruited volunteers to assist the Park Service to open Little Kinnakeet Life-Saving Station to the public for weekly guided tours. That station had been closed for the past 20 years.
We planned and implemented a memorable weekend long celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Life-Saving Service in NC with a program that included speakers from the USCG, State Dept of Cultural Resources, the National Park Service, and historian Kevin Duffus. The Weekend included displays of Surfboats and Helicopters used today in rescues, as well as a demonstration of the ways rescues were conducted in the 19th Century.
We provided 52 weekly stories of rescues performed by the original seven stations which were published locally and regionally.
We visited each and every 4th grade student in Dare County, presented, in appropriate period dress, a brief history of the Life-Saving Service (LSS), and provided them the opportunity to visit Chicamacomico with their families free during their summer vacation.
We began an ambitious restoration of the 150 year old 1874 Station and completed Phase One (East Façade) of the project and obtained at least partial funding for Phase Two (West Façade & Roof).
We appeared on radio in the Piedmont and on television on PBS.
We presented minimally two porch talks/week on a variety of topics (LSS and Island history, wrecks & rescues, skills, and other topics of interest).
